MSFA Mini-Grant Program
"Money, pardon the expression, is like manure. It’s not worth a thing unless it’s spread around, encouraging young things to grow."
Dolly Levi from "Hello Dolly"
The Minnesota State Fiddlers Association (MSFA) has a mission to “Keep the Heritage of Fiddling Alive” through fiddle music education activities with an emphasis on the upper mid-west. To this end, the MSFA may give small, annual grants to projects that support this mission. The number and amount available for these grants will be determined each year by the MSFA board of directors. The final approval for fund disbursement will reside with the MSFA board.
The MSFA will accept requests that include (but are not limited to) fiddle contests, workshops, scholarships to fiddle related camps and workshops and support of old-time jams. The MSFA will also consider grants to the Minnesota State Arts Board or other similar arts grants organization for a project that promotes the purpose of the MSFA. Projects may support any style of traditional, old-time music; the dollar limits for any grant will be from $50 to $250 for an individual scholarship and $100 to $500 for group event. It is anticipated there will be two calls per year for grant applications. Mini-Grant Applications shall be submitted via email before the grant due date. Applicants will be notified by email within 30 days of the due date. Grant funding will be provided upon approval of application, payable to the point of contact.
In consideration of the agreement by the MSFA for these grants, the recipient will agree to:
1) credit the MSFA by listing the MSFA as a sponsor and including the MSFA name and website wherever possible in appropriate printed and electronic materials,
2) allow the MSFA to hang a banner and/or provide membership information at any public events as deemed appropriate,
3) allow MSFA to publish pictures and written accounts of the funded activity in MSFA websites, social media and e- newsletters.
MSFA board members that are considering applying for these mini-grants shall recuse themselves from the development of the selection process and voting on individual grants where they may personally benefit.
